Water Intake Heater Systems

Hulsinger Electric has provided water municipalities with heated intake screens specifically designed and built for their intake. Using PLC's (Programmable Logic Controller ), RTD's ( Resistant Temperature Device ), and Modulating Power Supplies to monitor water temperature and regulate the heated intake screen temperature, we provide an efficient way to power the screens; only using the needed electricity giving the customer savings into the future.

Testing

Hulsinger Electric has given hours of testing to furthering the protection of frazzle ice freeze up for water intakes. Using our heated screens we have simulated moving, icy water and have accumulated data and pictures to show that frazzle ice is less likely freeze to heated stainless steel. With temperature meters in place we monitor water temperature and the heated bar to prove we can maintain a temperature of 17C, or 62.6F.

 

    
     

Other Benefits and Applications:

Another benefit of using a heated intake screen is reduction in Zebra Mussels. The mussels can only stand temperatures of 32 - 96 degrees Fahrenheit . During the summer months the heated screen can maintain a temperature of over 100 degrees deterring the zebra mussels.
