In 2009, Hulsinger Electric built a large insert custom designed to proved a continual heated surface for one of the intake cones at the Evanston, Illinois Water Plant. 

The cone was designed with multiple zones for redundancy in the case of failure to a cable or plug. 

In 2015 a pipe insert was also built to reduce the risk of the frazzle ice collecting at the beginning of the pipe just below the intakes.
